The selection I chose was from an artist stemming in Africa. To be more exact, she is from the south eastern island of Madagascar and the artists name is Jean-Jacques Efiaimbelo. The piece that I chose is Untitled (1992) Wood, paint and it is 20.87 x 12.99 x 5.12 inches (53 x 33 x 13 cm). This artwork was sourced from the Pigozzi Collection.
I chose this piece because of it’s simplicity and because I felt I had more of a connection to understanding and being familiar with the key object as it is a small airplane. I imagine it may be a supplies plane that that travels into the tribal areas to bring in supplies and serve as a commuter, possibly. I like Efiambelo’s creativity in color templates and utilizing wood through first building or sculpting the object then painting the wood. That is always fun to do.
